Review: TRESemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo

Before Purchase: I’d had some interest in trying a dry shampoo for awhile, but couldn’t make up my mind about it. A few days before my planned visit to Ulta I saw a commercial online for Fresh Start, and so I decided to look for it when I went to Ulta.

Price: Ulta was charging $5.49 USD regular price for all varieties of Fresh Start when I visited.

Packaging: It comes in a pretty standard arasol can, like hairspray. It did not have shrinkwrap or anything else on it.

Ingredients: As printed on the can: Hydrofluorocarbon 152A, alchohol denat., zea mays (corn) starch, magnesium stearate, aluminum starch octenylsuccinatem benzyl alcohol, PPG-3 benzyl ether myristate, fragrance (parful), silica dimethyl silylate, PVP, kaolin, linalool, limonene, butylphenyl methylpropional, amyl cinnamal, hexyl cinnamal, citronellol, geraniol, glycerin, citrus grandis (grapefruit) fruit extract, citrus tangerina (tangerine) peel extract.

The Product: I washed my hair as normal on a Friday night. Sunday morning I tried the Fresh Start. I used a combination bristle brush (boar and nylon bristles grouped together), because bristle brushes help distribute natural oils through the hair.

All it accomplished was making my scalp and roots feel gunked up.

Even though I tried it another time after that, the results were the same: white residue that flaked into my hair and would not brush out for anything, and my scalp feeling icky, for lack of better terms. Using the Fresh Start made me want to wash my hair with regular shampoo.

Final Thoughts:

  • Was I happy with my purchase? Not at all.
  • Would I purchase Fresh Start dry shampoo again? Nope. In fact, I returned it yesterday.
  • Rating? 0.5 out of 5 stars (because I actually liked the smell of it).

I’ve been looking for a dry shampoo, but at least I’ll know to avoid this one.

I really like Batiste. It’s worth trying out if you’re still interested in dry shampoo!

    Sissy! Aerosol.

I am a MAJOR fan of Ion Dry Shampoo. I will lend you my bottle for a review if you like. I also have the BTZ Rock On Dry Shampoo.
